The Washington Redskins originated in Boston as the Braves in 1932. The team played at Braves field before moving to Fenway Park for three years. The team relocated to Washington D.C. in 1937where it would go on to win its first game, first division title, and first NFL Championship.
The team would ultimately move to RFK Stadium in 1961 and would play there for 35 years before moving to its new digs at FedEx Field. They have not won a conference championship since moving to the new field and under the majority ownership of Dan Snyder.
The team name and the team logo have recently become the center of a major controversy. Lawsuits have been filed by Native American groups because they believe the name to be disparaging. Team owner Dan Snyder has made it clear he believes the name and logo symbolize strength, courage, pride and respect and does not plan to change the name despite a recent decision by the US Trademark and Patent Office to revoke the team’s trademarks.
Jay Gruden, the eighth head coach under Snyder, looks to bring the RedSkins back to their glory days as he leads the coach in 2014. Robert Griffin III will lead the team at the quarterback position.
